We chatted to Ivy recently about her career, her greatest inspiration, and a whole lot more. Here’s what this bond origination icon had to say.

How did you come to work in bond origination?

When banks began entering into bond origination contracts, they also started to offer banking staff packages or Sales Manager positions. At the time, I was a Home Loans Sales Manager for one of the major banks and I believed that bond origination was the way to go – so when several estate agents asked if I was thinking of going over to origination, I jumped at the opportunity.

What is your ‘why’ – the reason you do what you do?

I enjoy working with all the amazing people I meet and form relationships with, from estate agents to clients. It’s also very fulfilling to see a first-time home buyer purchase their first property, and it’s the greatest compliment when they refer friends or family members to me.

How has your business grown and changed over the years?

My business has grown tremendously, thanks to the support from my clients, estate agents, and the team I work with. I feel blessed that I’ve maintained strong relationships with my clients, and that I’ve formed new ones thanks to their referrals.

How have your clients and their needs changed over the years?

Our clients’ needs tend to stay the same – they simply want the best rate and deal available to them. At Powered by MortgageMax Ivy Dahms, we feel very strongly about giving clients the best possible service and negotiating the best deals for them.

What do you value most about working in the bond origination industry?

The many relationships and friendships I’ve built over the years.

What’s your greatest strength as a bond originator?

I’m passionate about and committed to what I do. I’ve gained an in-depth knowledge of the products available over the years and ensure that my clients not only understand the bond origination process but that they feel safe and supported along the way. I take pride in the fact that I’m flexible, versatile, and always available to my clients.

What’s the secret to outstanding client service?

To always maintain a positive attitude and to be friendly and respectful. It’s also important to focus on supporting your clients and listening to their needs.

Who is your greatest inspiration?

I’d have to say Rudi Botha and Jors Van Niekerk – building the largest bond origination company in South Africa is a tremendous achievement.

What does success mean to you?

Success is achieving my goals and finding enjoyment in what I do. I feel fortunate to do what I love every day and to be able to have a positive impact on people’s lives.

What has been the biggest highlight of your career?

Along with receiving yearly recognition for achieving my goals, a career highlight has been receiving the Industry Legend Award.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in bond origination?

Know your products, listen to your clients, and pay careful attention to their needs.
